Who’s This Guy?

Non-physical. It’s a concept which is actually close to all of us, although many might not even know it. Some may attribute non-physical to god, others to ghosts, however the majority of us may attribute it to something far more realistic; thoughts. Thoughts, beliefs, emotions, memories – anything that emerges from the brain.

Now at this point, some of you may already be shouting at the screen. Good. If you’re shouting something about monism, single substance universe, etc then even better because you’re just as right as those who believe in dualism.

Hang on. Am I saying that the “universe” exists as both one substance and two substances? Well, no. What I’m getting at is the “universe” is most definitely monist, but why does that mean only one substance can exist within it?

The simplest example would be this. Ice, steam, water. Three different states of essentially the same substance.

Apply this to the “universe”. Physical (ice), Non-physical (steam) and the water? Energy.

Ouch. I think I heard your eyes rolling from here, and I’m technically writing this in the past.

What I’m trying to get at is this; what if the “base state” of the “universe” is energy and from this, other states can emerge? What if physical and non-physical are just other forms of energy?

Now for some science. Anyone heard of antimatter? If not, read or watch Angels and Demons for a rough explanation.

It is theorised (as all these things are) that the big bang was essentially a large matter-antimatter reaction (one of many actually, but that’s a topic for another time). Now such a reaction should be absolute in that there is nothing remaining – matter and antimatter essentially cancel each other out. However, for every billion atoms that did cancel each other out, one atom of matter did not and the resulting dust became the “universe” we know and love today. Those single atoms of dust became stars, planets, elements, solids, liquids, gases, etc.

So if “matter-dust” became all of this, what happened to the corresponding atoms of antimatter that didn’t react? What if those too formed stars, planets, elements, solids, liquids, gases, etc? But what if, what if, those elements, when compounded, created thoughts, emotions, or to really push the boat out, spirit?

I could be completely wrong, or completely right - it’s actually irrelevant at this point. My aim is for you to simply begin to look a bit deeper into what you perceive as the reality around you and within you. Because not enough people are doing that. And it’s starting to show.

So to conclude, if you’ve read this and thought “well that was about as mentally stimulating as a wet sponge” then don’t give up hope just yet. If you’ve read this and thought “what the f**k is this guy talking about? I didn’t understand a word of it” then I implore you to stay the course and, to quote Morpheus, “see how deep the rabbit hole goes”.

Although unlike Morpheus, I won’t drag you into a new reality. Well, not physically at least.

Keep Questioning.
